Our Story

After pastoring at Assembly of God Galle Church (now known as Hope Centre Galle) for 14 years, Rev. Nandasena and Sis. Tharuka Hewage founded Lifeway Church Assembly of God in 2002. With a handful of believers, they started holding Sunday services at a large old house (walauwa) which had been unoccupied for more than a decade. They did extensive repairs and cleaned up the place, which included chopping down a tree that had grown in the middle of the living room and broken through the roof. As they didn’t have any chairs, the members used to bring chairs from their homes every Sunday. These were the humble beginnings of Lifeway Church.

The church has flourished over the decades, with believers coming from various parts of Galle district. The building underwent major renovations in 2021 and now has a main hall, offices, classrooms, a kitchen and dining hall for weekly Sunday services and Assemblies of God Bible School (extension) classes. Rev. Sheron Hewage now leads the church with his wife, Sis. Vinodini Hewage, with a focus on the prophetic ministry as well as healing and deliverance.
